An 18-year-old Dee Why man has been charged over the alleged assault of a 47-year-old local man at James Meehan Reserve, in a case that has drawn strong attention across the Northern Beaches because of the severity of the victim's injuries and claims that several young people were involved.
An 18-year-old Dee Why man has been charged over the alleged assault of a 47-year-old local man at James Meehan Reserve, in a case that has drawn strong attention across the Northern Beaches because of the severity of the victim's injuries and claims that several young people were involved. Police allege Joseph Woodward, 18, assaulted the older man at the reserve at about 10pm on Friday, May 29. The incident was reported to have involved a number of youths and left the victim in such a serious condition that he was placed in an induced coma at Royal North Shore Hospital. The victim has been widely identified in the community as "Nick", although court documents use a different name. According to claims made by his partner on social media, the confrontation began after he asked a group of young men to lower their music while they were partying at the Dee Why reserve. Woodward was arrested at about 9pm on Sunday, June 14, at a Dee Why unit roughly a block from where the alleged assault took place. He remained in custody on Monday, June 15.
