Northern Beaches Hospital completed its transition to full public ownership on 29 April 2026, ending nearly eight years of private operation and marking the beginning of a new era for one of Sydney's largest hospitals. For the staff who stayed through the change, the shift to NSW Health has brought with it a range of professional opportunities that were simply not available under the previous private model.

More than 1,800 nurses, midwives, doctors, allied health professionals and support staff have joined NSW Health as part of the transition, with the hospital now classified as a level 5 public facility within the Northern Sydney Local Health District (NSLHD). For many of those staff — particularly nurses and midwives who had built careers at the hospital since it opened in 2018 — the move has unlocked pathways that were previously closed to them. New Training and Research Opportunities A range of specialty development programs are now available to nursing and midwifery staff across areas including critical care, aged care, neonatal intensive care, acute care and palliative care.
