A 25-year-old mountain bike rider has suffered a serious spinal injury after crashing at Bare Creek Bike Park in Belrose, prompting a major emergency response at the busy public holiday riding spot. The man was taken to Royal North Shore Hospital on Monday afternoon after reporting pain in his hip, abdomen and back and saying he could not feel anything from the waist down.

A 25-year-old mountain bike rider has suffered a serious spinal injury after crashing at Bare Creek Bike Park in Belrose, prompting a major emergency response at the busy public holiday riding spot. The man was taken to Royal North Shore Hospital on Monday afternoon after reporting pain in his hip, abdomen and back and saying he could not feel anything from the waist down. Emergency services were called shortly before 12.45pm on Monday, 8 June, to reports of a man seriously injured at the bike park on Crozier Road. The park was packed with riders at the time because of the public holiday and favourable riding conditions, with bystanders and friends among the first to reach the injured man. According to the fact pack, the rider had successfully navigated a run of large jumps on the eastern side of the course before continuing over a drop from a stone wall into a left-hand turn. As he came through the bend at about 30km/h, he appears to have lost enough momentum to miss the next jump cleanly.
