A 53-year-old woman has been charged after police alleged a 10-month-old boy was assaulted at a child-care centre in Warriewood, in a case likely to concern local families with children in care. Detectives say the alleged incidents happened on two consecutive days in late May at the centre on Vuko Place.

A 53-year-old woman has been charged after police alleged a 10-month-old boy was assaulted at a child-care centre in Warriewood, in a case likely to concern local families with children in care. Detectives say the alleged incidents happened on two consecutive days in late May at the centre on Vuko Place. Northern Beaches Police Area Command began investigating on Tuesday, 9 June, after being told a woman working at the centre had allegedly assaulted a child in her care. Police allege the boy was assaulted on Tuesday, 26 May and Wednesday, 27 May. According to police, the woman was employed at the Warriewood centre when the alleged assaults took place. Her employment was terminated on Wednesday, 27 May after the matter was reported to management. Detectives arrested the woman just after 2.30pm on Thursday, 11 June, at a home in Mona Vale. She was taken to Manly Police Station and charged with five counts of common assault. Police have said the child did not suffer any injuries. Even so, the matter has resulted in multiple charges, and the investigation moved quickly from the initial report to an arrest within the same week.
