A man in his 40s has died in hospital after being discovered unconscious in the gutter at the intersection of South Creek Road and Toronto Avenue, Wheeler Heights, on the evening of Tuesday 2 June 2026.

A man in his 40s has died in hospital after being discovered unconscious in the gutter at the intersection of South Creek Road and Toronto Avenue, Wheeler Heights, on the evening of Tuesday 2 June 2026. A member of the public called Triple Zero just before 8.30pm after finding the man unresponsive at the busy roundabout. Among the first bystanders to reach him was an off-duty nurse, who confirmed he was in cardiac arrest. An off-duty paramedic also attended after receiving a GoodSAM Responder alert — a system officially partnered with NSW Ambulance that notifies CPR-trained community members of nearby emergencies. Three NSW Ambulance crews, including Intensive Care Paramedics and NSW Ambulance Inspector Mark Whittaker — who lives locally and was off duty at the time — worked to resuscitate the man at the scene. The Toll NSW Ambulance Rescue Helicopter was tasked from Bankstown and landed at nearby St Matthews Farm Reserve at 9.00pm, with a specialist trauma doctor and critical care paramedic transported to the scene by Northern Beaches Police Inspector Matthew Patterson.
