Northern Beaches Council has opened public consultation on a draft Disability Inclusion Action Plan, asking residents to help set the agenda for the next four years of accessibility and inclusion work.
Northern Beaches Council has opened public consultation on a draft Disability Inclusion Action Plan, asking residents to help set the agenda for the next four years of accessibility and inclusion work. More than 21 per cent of Australians live with disability, and on the Northern Beaches the local ageing population means those numbers will continue to rise. The council says the plan is designed to make everyday life more accessible for people with disability, their carers and families. Mayor Sue Heins said the draft was developed collaboratively with community members who have lived experience of disability, along with local support services. "When we engaged with people with disability, they described inclusion in very practical everyday terms such as being able to travel around safely, access the information they need and be treated with respect," she said. The consultation phase now opens the draft to the wider community before the final plan is adopted. Council is asking residents to review the document and provide feedback on where efforts should be focused over the coming four years.
