Young musicians have until 31 May to enter Northern Composure, a Northern Beaches band competition offering a $3,000 cash prize pool alongside additional industry prizes and performance opportunities.

Young musicians have until 31 May to enter Northern Composure, a Northern Beaches band competition offering a $3,000 cash prize pool alongside additional industry prizes and performance opportunities. Northern Beaches Council says the competition will run with live heats across three venues in July before a grand final at the PCYC in Dee Why on Saturday 1 August. The heats are scheduled for Mona Vale Memorial Hall on Saturday 4 July, YOYO’s Youth Centre Forestville on Saturday 11 July, and Warriewood Community Centre on Saturday 18 July. Mayor Sue Heins said the competition provides an opportunity for young bands to perform for a live audience and develop their skills through on-stage experience. Heins said Northern Composure has been running for more than 20 years and described it as a major platform on the Northern Beaches for emerging bands. Council said the competition has a track record of featuring acts who later became well-known, listing past entrants including Ocean Alley, Lime Cordiale, Dear Seattle, The Rions, Crocodylus, C.O.F.F.I.N and Edgecliff.
