As the Anzac Day long weekend approaches, the familiar red and yellow flags will be coming down across many of the Northern Beaches, marking the official end of the 2025/26 beach season. However, in a significant boost for local water safety, lifeguard patrols at Dee Why Beach will transition to year-round coverage starting Monday, 25 May.

As the Anzac Day long weekend approaches, the familiar red and yellow flags will be coming down across many of the Northern Beaches, marking the official end of the 2025/26 beach season. However, in a significant boost for local water safety, lifeguard patrols at Dee Why Beach will transition to year-round coverage starting Monday, 25 May. The extension of services at Dee Why has been made possible by a Special Variation to rates, reflecting the community's commitment to maintaining safe coastal environments. While the majority of the 21 patrolled beaches stretching from Manly to Palm Beach will see a pause in lifeguard presence, busy Freshwater Beach will continue to be patrolled until Sunday, 24 May, and Manly will maintain its year-round patrol status. The past seven months have been exceptionally busy for the region's beaches. Since September, millions of visitors have flocked to the shores, resulting in record-breaking activity.
