The Northern Beaches Hospital (NBH) is on the cusp of one of the most significant changes in its history, with private operator Healthscope set to hand over management to NSW Health on 29 April 2026. The transition marks the end of a public-private partnership (PPP) that was originally contracted to run for another 12 years, and comes after months of complex negotiations between the state government, the federal government, and the hospital's clinical workforce.

The Northern Beaches Hospital (NBH) is on the cusp of one of the most significant changes in its history, with private operator Healthscope set to hand over management to NSW Health on 29 April 2026. The transition marks the end of a public-private partnership (PPP) that was originally contracted to run for another 12 years, and comes after months of complex negotiations between the state government, the federal government, and the hospital's clinical workforce. Of the 410 visiting medical officers (VMOs) attached to the hospital, 346 have signed contracts with NSW Health ahead of the handover date. However, the transition has not been without its complications. Some specialists have chosen to shift their private patient lists to other facilities, with concerns over access to advanced surgical technology — including the da Vinci robotic surgery system, originally acquired by Healthscope for private practice — cited as a contributing factor.
