A new community facility at Jamieson Park has received development approval, clearing the way for Northern Beaches Council to rebuild the sports amenities block destroyed by fire in late 2021. The project will restore facilities used by local clubs while adding public amenities beside Narrabeen Lagoon.
A new community facility at Jamieson Park has received development approval, clearing the way for Northern Beaches Council to rebuild the sports amenities block destroyed by fire in late 2021. The project will restore facilities used by local clubs while adding public amenities beside Narrabeen Lagoon. The former building had stood on the lagoon bank for many years before the fire caused damage severe enough to require a complete rebuild. Council will now move to the next stage of the project, although a construction start date and expected completion date have not been specified. The replacement has been designed in consultation with the community and will provide additional storage for groups using the reserve and lagoon. These include sailing, model boat and dragon boat clubs, whose equipment needs have been incorporated into the plans. The approved design also includes a public café, accessible showers and toilets, watercraft facilities and a meeting room. The meeting space will be available to both community organisations and sporting clubs, broadening the building's use beyond day-to-day recreation. Accessibility is a central part of the design.
