Mona Vale Beach south dog off-leash trial extended until October 2027

Dog owners will retain off-leash access at the southern end of Mona Vale Beach for another year after Northern Beaches Council extended the current trial until 13 October 2027. The decision prevents access from lapsing while Council considers the results of the trial's initial 12 months.

Dog owners will retain off-leash access at the southern end of Mona Vale Beach for another year after Northern Beaches Council extended the current trial until 13 October 2027. The decision prevents access from lapsing while Council considers the results of the trial's initial 12 months. The trial began on 14 October 2025 and had been scheduled to finish on 13 October 2026. Its extension provides continuity for people using the designated section of the beach while the evaluation is completed. There will be no change to the trial area or its existing time restrictions during the extension. The decision does not expand where or when dogs can be off leash, so owners will need to continue observing the current boundaries and access hours. Community feedback contributed to the decision. Council received more than 560 submissions during consultation on the proposed extension, with a majority of respondents supporting another year of the trial. The additional period will give Council time to assess the first year's operation before determining what should happen beyond October 2027.
