Patyegarang housing rezoning withdrawn as major Manly Vale and Collaroy proposals progress

The decision ends the current rezoning process for the Morgan Road site in Belrose, where bushfire exposure, environmental damage and pressure on local infrastructure had prompted widespread local opposition.
The Metropolitan Local Aboriginal Land Council has withdrawn its proposal to rezone bushland at Patyegarang, formerly known as Lizard Rock, for 450 homes. The decision ends the current rezoning process for the Morgan Road site in Belrose, where bushfire exposure, environmental damage and pressure on local infrastructure had prompted widespread local opposition. The proposal covered 71 hectares of land owned by the Metropolitan Local Aboriginal Land Council. It received approval from the Sydney North Planning Panel to proceed to Gateway Determination in June 2023, before a public exhibition between September and November that year generated more than 1,300 pages of community submissions. Northern Beaches Council formally opposed the rezoning because of the proposed loss of bushland. Northern Beaches Envirolink also raised concerns about flora and fauna, Aboriginal cultural heritage sites, bushfire risk and infrastructure, while a petition carrying 12,000 signatures was presented to NSW Parliament in 2023.
