The crash left him unconscious, bleeding heavily and unable to speak, prompting a multi-agency response and the deployment of a specialist aeromedical team.

Emergency services received the Triple Zero call shortly before 10am on 23 August. The man had been taking part in an organised group ride on the trail off Ralston Avenue when he crashed on a downhill section. Other riders immediately provided first aid and reported that several of his teeth had been knocked out. The group used the Emergency Plus app to send precise coordinates to emergency services. That location information allowed rescuers to determine how best to reach the injured rider, who was about five kilometres along the bush trail in an area without a conventional street address. Fire and Rescue NSW crews from Forestville and Gordon responded with Rural Fire Service volunteers from Tumbledown Dick and Northern Beaches Headquarters brigades.
