Northern Beaches-based artist Michael Muir will bring more than a decade of paintings together for The Shape of Colour at Manly Art Gallery & Museum. Opening on 25 September, the exhibition will give local visitors a broad view of Muir's work in one place and will remain on display until 29 November 2026.
Northern Beaches-based artist Michael Muir will bring more than a decade of paintings together for The Shape of Colour at Manly Art Gallery & Museum. Opening on 25 September, the exhibition will give local visitors a broad view of Muir's work in one place and will remain on display until 29 November 2026. Muir is known for bold, dream-like interpretations of coastal landscapes, suburban streets and city scenes. His paintings combine recognisable places with imagined elements, drawing on memory, travel and everyday surroundings rather than presenting the landscape as a strictly literal record. Working mainly with a palette knife, Muir builds textured surfaces that bring architecture, geometry and natural forms together. The selected works show how colour, atmosphere and structure have developed across his practice over more than 10 years. The Scotland-born and Southeast Asia-raised painter has been a finalist several times in the Wynne and Sulman Art Prizes. His work is also held in public collections including Artbank, Macquarie University, Mosman Art Gallery and NSW Parliament.
