A 70-year-old man was rescued from the roof of an Elanora Heights apartment building after falling from scaffolding and badly injuring his right leg on Friday afternoon, 7 August. The difficult location forced emergency crews to rule out the scaffolding as an evacuation route and carry him through an apartment instead.

A 70-year-old man was rescued from the roof of an Elanora Heights apartment building after falling from scaffolding and badly injuring his right leg on Friday afternoon, 7 August. The difficult location forced emergency crews to rule out the scaffolding as an evacuation route and carry him through an apartment instead. NSW Ambulance and Fire and Rescue NSW crews from Narrabeen Station were called shortly after 4.30pm to the building above shops on Elanora Road. It is understood the man, who lives in the building, had used builders scaffolding to reach the roof and inspect work being done there. The man reportedly lost his footing and slipped between one and two metres from the scaffolding onto the roof. He landed awkwardly on his upper right thigh and suffered a serious leg injury. Another resident sought help from an off-duty paramedic who lives nearby. After assessing the man for a suspected broken leg and considering the challenges of reaching him, the paramedic requested firefighters attend with a Stokes litter, a rescue stretcher used to move patients from difficult locations.
