Bayview groyne works completed ahead of wharf and tidal pool upgrade

Essential maintenance of the groyne at Bayview baths is complete, bringing the renewal of Bayview Wharf and the waterfront swimming area closer to construction. The broader project will restore the tidal pool, improve access to the wharf and add new boating infrastructure for local users. The 40-metre heritage barrier had deteriorated because of erosion and ground movement, prompting Northern Beaches Council to close the area and undertake structural repairs. The groyne was replaced on a like-for-like basis to retain its existing form while providing the stability needed for the next stage of work. The completed structure includes concrete bleacher-style steps on its eastern side and a basalt rock revetment on the western side. A pathway along the groyne has also been rebuilt, restoring a key part of the waterfront area without substantially changing the heritage barrier's design. Work on the wharf and baths is scheduled to begin in September. A major part of that stage will be the return of the tidal pool, which has been unusable since 2007.
