Northern Beaches residents are being invited to help plant about 2,000 native trees, shrubs and grasses at St Matthews Farm Reserve in Cromer on Sunday, 26 July. The community planting day will contribute to a broader restoration project covering five kilometres of South Creek between Beacon Hill and Cromer.

Northern Beaches residents are being invited to help plant about 2,000 native trees, shrubs and grasses at St Matthews Farm Reserve in Cromer on Sunday, 26 July. The community planting day will contribute to a broader restoration project covering five kilometres of South Creek between Beacon Hill and Cromer. Around 200 volunteers are expected to take part in the National Tree Day event, which will run from 10am to 1pm. Residents from across the Northern Beaches can register, rather than participation being limited to people living near Cromer. The planting will take place within an important wildlife corridor. The mix of native trees, shrubs and grasses means the work will add vegetation at several levels, rather than focusing only on tree canopy. This year's event is being held in conjunction with the South Creek Restoration Project. Over the next three years, the project will restore eight sites along the creek corridor between Beacon Hill and Cromer, making the Cromer planting day one part of a longer program rather than a stand-alone activity.
