A detailed plan to guide Brookvale's future growth is moving to the next stage, with Northern Beaches Council preparing to submit a precinct planning proposal to the NSW Government. If endorsed for public exhibition, the proposal would give residents and businesses an opportunity to comment before the council makes any final decisions. The proposal establishes a long-term framework for new housing, employment and infrastructure across Brookvale, the Northern Beaches' largest employment centre and an important hub for transport, services, arts and entertainment. It follows several years of community consultation and technical studies covering traffic, urban design, environmental matters and other planning issues. Council's stated aim is to manage expected growth through an area-wide plan rather than respond to separate development applications without an overarching framework. The proposal is intended to help Brookvale accommodate housing targets set by the NSW Government while retaining its concentration of businesses, health services, creative enterprises, breweries and industrial uses.
