Northern Beaches residents, businesses and community groups have until 30 August to comment on a major overhaul of local planning rules. The draft Local Environmental Plan and Development Control Plan would replace multiple existing controls with a single framework, while introducing possible zoning changes or new development restrictions for a small number of properties.

The proposed LEP and DCP are intended to make it clearer which planning rules and design standards apply in different parts of the Northern Beaches. Residents can use an interactive map on Council's website to check their property, an important step for owners considering development or wanting to understand whether their land could be affected. Most of the work is focused on simplifying and aligning controls across the local government area. The plans cover housing, employment, environmental protection, heritage, neighbourhood character, tree cover, community facilities and sustainable transport.
