The fire at Polo Smash Repairs on By The Sea Road drew an emergency response from police, paramedics and Fire and Rescue NSW, but the building was prevented from catching alight despite the risks posed by highly flammable materials inside.

The fire at Polo Smash Repairs on By The Sea Road drew an emergency response from police, paramedics and Fire and Rescue NSW, but the building was prevented from catching alight despite the risks posed by highly flammable materials inside. Emergency services were called just after 4pm on Thursday, 16 July, following a Triple Zero report of a fire at the business. Fire and Rescue NSW crews from Mona Vale, Avalon and Narrabeen stations responded, along with NSW Police and NSW Ambulance. Employees had smelled smoke and went looking for the source, finding a small fire had started inside a spray paint booth. With large volumes of chemicals on site that could accelerate a fire, staff grabbed extinguishers and worked to suppress the flames. They were not able to put the fire out completely, but their actions slowed its spread until firefighters arrived.
