Northern Beaches Council is moving ahead with plans for a new standalone public toilet block at Freshwater Beach, with construction scheduled to begin in August 2026. For locals, the project matters because it will replace or improve a key piece of beachside infrastructure at one of the area's busiest coastal reserves, with a stronger focus on accessibility and family use. The new amenities building will be located at the northern end of Freshwater Beach Reserve, close to the new playground. Council says the site was chosen to better serve families and other visitors using that part of the reserve. According to Council, the building will include accessible toilets, a family change room and unisex handwashing facilities. It will also include what the council describes as a first for Northern Beaches public amenities: a toddler toilet within the accessibility and family change room. The project follows community consultation and a further review of the concept design.
