A 63-year-old man has been charged after a late-night crash at Newport left a four-wheel drive overturned and two parked vehicles damaged. The incident drew a large emergency response to Bardo Road just after 11.30pm on Friday, with police alleging the driver later returned a high-range blood alcohol reading.
A 63-year-old man has been charged after a late-night crash at Newport left a four-wheel drive overturned and two parked vehicles damaged. The incident drew a large emergency response to Bardo Road just after 11.30pm on Friday, with police alleging the driver later returned a high-range blood alcohol reading. Emergency services were sent to the scene near Nullaburra Road after Triple Zero received a crash alert from the driver’s mobile phone. That automatic alert was followed by calls from bystanders, including residents who came outside after hearing the collision. Police, paramedics and firefighters arrived to find a black 2024 Land Rover Defender on its side after it had struck two parked vehicles. The damaged vehicles were a white 2012 Volkswagen Amarok utility and a white 1995 Toyota Dyna tipper truck. The driver was still inside the overturned Land Rover when crews arrived. Police said he was standing up inside the vehicle but could not climb out on his own, and firefighters helped him to safety. NSW Ambulance paramedics assessed the man at the scene.
