A 16-year-old boy was rescued by helicopter after falling several metres from a cliff at Queenscliff Headland on Friday, in an incident that drew a large emergency response and briefly delayed the airlift because of illegal drone activity nearby. The boy was later flown to Royal North Shore Hospital in a stable condition.

Emergency services were called just before midday after reports that a person had fallen onto rocks from a cliff near the end of Queenscliff Road at Queenscliff. NSW Police, Fire and Rescue NSW crews from Manly and Narrabeen, and five NSW Ambulance crews responded, along with NSW Ambulance Inspector Mark Whittaker and the Toll NSW Ambulance Rescue Helicopter. Crews found the boy on the Freshwater side of the headland near the wormhole. He was conscious and told responders he had been scaling the cliff face with a friend when he lost his footing and fell between five and eight metres, landing heavily on the rock platform. Paramedics treated a head laceration and assessed him for other injuries. He was complaining of back pain and leg injuries, according to the facts released from the scene.
