NSW Police and NSW Ambulance were called to Thompson Street, Scotland Island, just after 5.15pm on Thursday, 25 June, after reports a man had been badly hurt in an explosion. The injured man, aged 59, had reportedly been working with a can of black spray paint when it exploded close to his face. Emergency services said the blast caused major facial injuries. Paramedics later found the man had serious lacerations to the left side of his face, with skin from his cheek torn away. As ambulance crews made their way towards Church Point, the man was transported off Scotland Island by boat so treatment could begin as quickly as possible on the mainland.
