A 52-year-old Collaroy man was rescued from rocks below Long Reef Headland on Wednesday, 24 June, after a fall left him with a fractured pelvis and an incoming tide cut off the small beach where he had taken shelter. The incident drew a multi-agency response shortly before midday and closed with the man being taken to Northern Beaches Hospital in a stable condition just after 1.15pm.

NSW Ambulance and Fire and Rescue NSW crews from Dee Why and Narrabeen were called to reports of an injured person at the base of a cliff at Long Reef Headland, Collaroy. According to the fact pack, the man had been on the rock platform with a female friend photographing wildlife when he slipped on a wet surface and landed heavily on his right hip. After the fall, he was able to move a short distance with help to a small beach about 200 metres south of the headland lookout. But the pair then found themselves stuck between a rocky outcrop and the rising tide, unable to continue along the flat ground. The man’s companion climbed a cliff about 10 metres high to get help.
