A man in his 60s was flown to Royal North Shore Hospital in a critical condition after falling down a flight of stairs at a Newport home on Sunday night, with emergency services turning Newport Oval into a helicopter landing site to get him to trauma care. The man was confirmed on Monday to be in a serious but stable condition in intensive care.

A man in his 60s was flown to Royal North Shore Hospital in a critical condition after falling down a flight of stairs at a Newport home on Sunday night, with emergency services turning Newport Oval into a helicopter landing site to get him to trauma care. The man was confirmed on Monday to be in a serious but stable condition in intensive care. Emergency services were called to a residential property on Ismona Avenue just after 7.45pm on Sunday, 21 June, after reports the man had fallen down about a dozen stairs. According to the information provided at the scene, he had been drinking before the fall, struck his head and was knocked unconscious. NSW Police, Fire and Rescue NSW Mona Vale Station and three NSW Ambulance crews responded, including an ambulance from Avalon Ambulance Station, Intensive Care Paramedics and NSW Ambulance Inspector Christian Holmes. The Avalon crew was already travelling into Newport and arrived within minutes. Paramedics found the man with a suspected traumatic brain injury and called for a medical team.
