A 22-year-old man has been arrested after a car crashed into a bus at Mona Vale on Thursday night, closing part of Pittwater Road and triggering a police investigation into suspected drink-driving. The crash happened at a busy local intersection and involved a new electric bus, although no passengers were on board and the bus driver was not injured.

Emergency services were called just before 7pm on Thursday, 18 June, to reports a car had hit a bus at high speed at the intersection of Pittwater Road and Coronation Street. Police were told the red 2009 Volkswagen Golf GTI had been travelling south on Pittwater Road and failed to properly negotiate the left-hand turn into Coronation Street before colliding with a bus waiting at the lights to turn onto Pittwater Road. The impact caused major damage to the front of the Volkswagen and set off its airbags. The force of the crash also caused a large oil spill on Coronation Street, prompting firefighters from Mona Vale Station to close a southbound lane on Pittwater Road and block access to Coronation Street while they treated the spill with absorbent material.
